Sunju is a pioneering figure in the emerging genre of gayageum performance, blending Korea’s iconic traditional instrument with contemporary art forms. She made her debut in Sweden with the piece [Embrace Nature, Embody Nature], which earned accolades at domestic and international music competitions. Since then, she has released two full-length albums and two books of original scores, establishing herself as an inventive voice at the intersection of tradition and innovation.
Her creative focus lies in pushing the boundaries of gayageum through interdisciplinary collaborations. Notable works include Practice (2022), selected as a finalist in the performance art category of the 2024 Arte Laguna Prize in Venice, and Gayageum Orteke (2023), which received the Korean Minister of Culture’s Award for its inventive fusion of puppetry and music.
Beyond her solo work, Park contributes as a music director and performing arts producer across exhibition, theatre, and live performance platforms—infusing traditional Korean sounds into modern storytelling. Her creative direction led to national and international recognition for collaborative projects such as FreezyBone(K-Hiphop group)’s win at the 2021 World Star Arts Awards in Korea and Culture Art Bakery FFWANG(Puppet theatre)’s Best Acting Award at Kazakhstan’s 6th Orteke Puppetry Festival in 2023.
As an educator, Park is dedicated to globalizing the reach of Korean traditional music. She previously served as a culture lecturer at the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil and currently teaches at Seoul Foreign School.
